I love Quick Lit time. I can brag to you about all of the books that I read (LOL); four books this month and am currently six books ahead of schedule to read 36 books this year. However, when I tell you my life is hectic this week, I am not lying in any way so just the books and some favorite quotes this month. I may expound on some of these at a later date.
Read
- A Million Little Ways by Emily P. Freeman: “I can’t imagine anything more dangerous to the enemy of our hears than people who they are.”
- Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan:“There is no immortality that is not built on friendship and work done with care. All the secrets in the world worth knowing are hiding in plain sight….Your life must be an open city, with all sorts of ways to wander in.”
- The Travelers by Chris Pavone: “Will wants everything to be perfect. He wants the perfect wife, the perfect kids, the perfect old townhouse, perfectly restored, where he’ll serve perfect food accompanied by perfect wines in perfect glasses. He wants his suit perfectly tailored, his shoes perfectly shined. He wants the hotel room to be perfect, the overnight train ride, the local tour guide. And he has made the relentless pursuit of perfection his career.”
- I Know How She Does It by Laura Vanderkam: “There is no virtue in being productive towards ends that don’t matter.
Stopped Abandoned Reading:
I have changed the title from stopped to abandoned because it is more in line with the wording for MMD’s Reading Challenge.
As usual, linking up with Quick Lit over on Modern Mrs. Darcy. Check out what everyone else is reading.
I really enjoyed Mr. Penumbra’s I thought it was excellent!
I enjoyed it also. Thanks for commenting.
I just finished The Book Thief this month after previously abandoning it (almost a year ago). It is a hard book to read & really takes awhile to pick up in pace too, I found. I had it on audiobook from the library this month, and I really enjoyed that format. The narrator was also fantastic. I’m only sharing this in case you ever wanted to give it another go – I know audiobooks aren’t for everyone but I have really started to embrace them so that I can listen while doing housework, commuting or exercising 🙂 I haven’t seen the movie yet though! I love Emily’s P. Freeman’s website so I really want to read her books someday 🙂
Thanks for the idea of the audio book for The Book Thief. I may have to try that. Yes, do pick up one of Emily’s books. If you are artistic, I would start with A Million Little Ways. Let me know what you think.
Mr. Penumbra is on my to-read list! And I loved Simply Tuesday, so I’ll have to check out this other one by Emily. My goal this year is 36 books too! 🙂
Awesome! I was just over on your site and saw that. I am doing fairly well with my goal as are you, I saw. Mr Penumbra was WEIRD but interesting enough for me to keep going, although I kept thinking “Where is this going?” Let me know what you think. Thanks for commenting.
Loved A Million Little Ways….
why did you abandon The Bookseller and The Book Thief? I actually saw the movie for The Book Thief first and I think it really helped me stay the course in the book.
Well, I haven’t seen the movie so, no help there. Lol! Honestly for The Bookseller, it was progressing too slowly for me and I had other books I was interested in. The library loan expired and I found I wasn’t interested anymore. The Book Thief was a eBook and it expired as well. It’s hard for me to read eBooks, I have discovered-prefer turning actual pages.
just read some articles touting that people are apparently getting “digital fatigue” and going back to print books
I hope so. There is nothing like the smell of a good book and feeling the quality of a cover and the texture of the paper. Love it. Thanks for reading.
People are even making their own journals now with a real leather cover, talk about the smell…! and feel…and using the light weight card stock for paper….
I LOVED Simply Tuesday and am looking forward to checking out A Million Little Ways.
I really liked A Million Little Ways. I will probably read it again periodically. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
I don’t blame you for abandoning The Book Thief. It was a great story but it dragged on 100 pages too long, in my opinion, and it was so sad. I thought the movie was actually better than the book, which is rare. Have you watched the movie?
No, I haven’t. My movie watching is generally pure escapism; very rarely do I watch historically accurate movies. I might watch this one though. Thanks for commenting.
I have heard that; just read that James Patterson’s starting a new imprint of books <150 pages, designed to be read in one sitting;
having said that, Shannan, I wondered where you got the term "abandoned" books, since I'd just downloaded and printed Modern Mrs. Darcy's book journal, with a page for those in it; anybody else use hers?
I got the term from Modern Mrs. Darcy. I haven’t used the journal, however. Thanks for commenting.
