First, a public service announcement: If you’re looking for some “bookish delight” while staying home, check out the Stay at Home Book Tour over on Modern Mrs. Darcy. There are two weeks worth of conversations with authors who have books releasing into the world during this time (which is very challenging for authors who can’t do book tours and signings right now). Some of these books I have read and highly recommend. And others I had not and so, I must confess, my purse is a little lighter. Go ahead, click on over there and see what I mean and then come back here and check out my March reading recap.
Now, back to our regularly scheduled post:
So, you would think that with Covid-19, I would have read a lot of books. If you read my “What I’m Into {March 2020}” post, you know that I didn’t really deal to well with everything the first couple of weeks. But I did manage to read a couple of books and I am still four books ahead of schedule for my Goodreads 2020 Reading Challenge. My goal is to read 40 books this year.
Read
- The Wedding Party (The Wedding Date, #3) by Jasmine Guillory. I enjoy the Wedding Date series and was looking forward to getting the fourth, however, due to my library being closed, I will probably have to wait on that for a bit. Unfortunately, this is the kind of light-hearted fare that I need to read right now.
- Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng. This was March’s pick for the Rocket City Mom Virtual Book Club. You can read my full review on that site. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
Currently Reading
I have been dabbling in and out of books this whole month trying to find one that I could enjoy during these strange times. I think I might have started at least seven so I will just share the ones that I have stuck with and am close to completion.
- Everything is Figureoutable by Marie Forleo. This is a self-help, get your rear-in-gear kind of book about accomplishing your goals and dreams. Marie believes that “everything is able to be figured out” – hence the name – and she doesn’t tolerate excuses. I was surprised to find myself reading and enjoying this with everything that is going on but I did. Perhaps it served as a not-so-gentle reminder that it could be worse and we all still have work to do.
- Midnight at the Blackbird Café by Heather Webber. This is the new pick for Rocket City Mom Virtual Book Club for for Mat. It’s a reread for me so, yes, I like it very much. It’s a delight and who couldn’t use a little delight right now?
I have abandoned so many books this past month searching for something that I sink my teeth into right now that I really do not want to go into it.
What about you? How has all of this affected your reading life?
enjoy life…
P.S. Per usual, I am linking up with Modern Mrs. Darcy’s Quick Lit post. If you are here, because of her, I’m grateful. Thank you for being here.
I read Little Fires and really liked it. I have The Wedding Date (#1) and still haven’t read it. I didn’t realize there were three of them already. Reading has been surprisingly hard for me too. Easily distracted with our 2 college and 1 high school kid home and constant news alerts. I’ve actually done better in the last couple weeks just by ignoring a lot of the media and our kids are getting into a better groove of things.
Setting news/media limits has been one of the key things that is keeping me something close to sane right now. I had to turn off alerts entirely.
The Wedding Date series may have four books now. Lots of good reading ahead. Thanks for being here.
Shannan, hi! Yes. My reading life is weird and off kilter. Light reads only … and missing the library for sure …
I know. I am looking forward to my weekly trips to the library again. I saw a meme that said “I’m a homebody but I like to go one or two places.” The library is one of my places. Thanks for being here.
I am trying to get back in a good reading pattern, but it’s been hard to concentrate. I’ve been trying to finish A Spark of Light for a very long time now. I finally made it past page 300 yesterday. It was the only library book I had out before it closed.
I’m finding the genre and length matters right now. And what’s right one day may not be right the next. It’s weird. Thanks for being here.
For the first couple of weeks of staying in, all I could read were fast-paced, plot-driven books. I seem to be mentally settling down now, though, and reading a little broader — just not reading as much because of having extra people/distractions in the house.
Having more people around will definitely cut into reading time. Thank you for being here.
